Are these people our friends for looking like us, for being like us? Yes. Are they our most dread threat, for looking like us, for being like us? Yes. While some things are monsters without, others are monsters within.

Not every entity with supernatural powers is one of a species of creatures that prowl the night. Solitary psychics, crazed sorcerers and doomsaying cultists all share the World of Darkness. Second Sight as a sphere includes all those who are not quite normal - psychics, spiritualists, shamans, pagans, taoists and ceremonial magicians.

• Parapsychology: Local History -- In 1800's Vienna, Spiritism became an interest of the noble classes as it did in other parts of Europe, with Count Szapary authoring a number of books on magnetic healing. It was Count Delhez however who imported Kardecian Spiritism to Vienna with the publication of 'The Book of Spirits' and 'The Spiritism in its Easiest Expression'.

• Spiritism: General -- Although legend and myth are full of stories of seers and magic, it was only in the Victorian era that psychic abilities really began to generate interest amongst the general public. The Spiritualist Movement, which eventually led to the foundation of the Spiritualist Church, began in 1820's America and rapidly spread

• General -- Use the word shaman today, and most people will think of the native american people; shamanistic beliefs however were once held throughout Europe (the Baltic region is considered the seat of European Shamanism and such beliefs were also held throughout the Slavic regions), before the rise of monotheism

• General -- Since earliest times man has sought some control over his harsh environment through the use of magic. By flickering torchlight cave walls were painted with images of a successful hunt by early man. Modern Thaumaturgy is believed to date back to the Rosicrucians, Hexenhammer and Freemasonic traditions.
• Hedge Witches -- Almost all cultures have practitioners of what could be called Hedge Witchery; these are Thaurmaturgists who affect people, swaying their emotions and altering their fates.
• Ceremonial Thaumaturgy -- The pursuit of ceremonial magic is, generally speaking, a pursuit of the academic. Since the Renaissance the scholars of Europe have competed to obtain the occult knowledge of Islam, Judaism and Greece and unlock the mystical secrets within.

• General -- The ancestral religion of Africa is not one that has taken hold in Europe, even as the world has become smaller. It is unlikely that one will encounter a thaumaturge with the ability to work with the Loa in Vienna...but not impossible.

• General -- The Tao (or Dao) can be translated as 'The path' or 'The way' and is a combination of psychology and philosophy that has been the major religion of China for over 1500 years. Based on the text of the Tao Te Ching, the work of Lao Tzu over 2500 years ago

• School of Witchcraft -- The school was founded as a result of Wichelhausen's frustration with learning the mystic arts. On the one hand there are a plethora of books about the subject now widely available in new age bookstores but how much can truly be learned from even those authored by genuinely gifted individuals?
• International Spiritualist Federation -- Founded in Belgium in 1923, the International Spiritualist Federation acts as an umberella organisation for many Spiritualist and Spiritist groups, enabling them to communicate with each other in spite of their differences.
• The Vienna Circle -- The Vienna Circle (in German: der Wiener Kreis) are philosophers that date back to a group that was gathered around Moritz Schlick when he was called to the Vienna University in 1922, organized in a philosophical association named Verein Ernst Mach (Ernst Mach Society).
