A MUSH is a text-based, multi-user game on the internet that allows players to connect to the same environment and interact with other players. Typically, this interaction is roleplaying. Mush is an acronym which stands for: "Multi-User Shared Hallucination" or "Multi-User Simultaneous Hallucination" (depending on who you ask), which is part of the family of multi-user text-based internet games that include: MUD, MUCK, MOO, MUSE, MURE, and MUX. This family is known as MU*'s and has a large and dedicated base of fans for over the past 20 years. MU* is also sometimes known as MUVE (Multi User Virtual Environment).
A MUSH focuses more on the writing ability and roleplaying abilities of its players. MUCK's have a programming language that most users will never see or use which is call MUF, and a MUSH is the latest generation of MU*'s out there, next to MUX. Even multiplayer graphical games such as Everquest. Mushing is still quite popular because of it's diverse and flexible nature which is limited only by the staff who run it and the players who play on it.
Unlike chat rooms though, players on a Mush can create their own character with their own descriptions, and shape their own environment. The possibilities are endless and only limited by what fits into the setting and theme of the mu*. As well, since a mush is text-based you don't need a powerful computer that can handle high-end graphics. You just need a simple client program, an internet connection, and an imagination. You can wander from room to room, where the other characters may be, and interact with them real-time. What this allows you to do then, is to roleplay and interact with people in real-time, online.

We can't know when humans first started telling stories, or why. But it's a safe bet that the first tale tellers used their craft to explain the mysteries going on around them. Indeed, some of the most ancient stories that are still told today grapple with the biggest mysteries of all — life, death, creation, redemption and the ongoing struggle of good versus evil. The World Of Darkness is a Storytelling game, because it's an opportunity for you to participate in the deeply human endeavor of telling stories.
The stories told in this game are set in the World of Darkness. It's a place very much like our world, sharing the same history, culture and geography. Superficially, most people in this fictional world live the same lives we do. They eat the same food, wear the same clothes, and waste time watching the same stupid TV shows. And yet, in the World of Darkness, shadows are deeper, nights are darker, fog is thicker. If, in our world, a neighborhood has a rundown house that gives people the creeps, in the World of Darkness, that house emits strange sighs on certain nights of the year, and seems to have a human face when seen from the corner of one's eye. Or so some neighbors say. In our world, there are urban legends. In the World of Darkness, there are urban legends whispered into the ears of autistic children by invisible spiders.
Haunted Memories -- Vienna by Night is set in White Wolf's Storytelling system. Specifically, the server has implemented the following RPG Systems:
- World of Darkness (New)

Game Setting
Where: Vienna, Austria
When: 2001 A.D.
Grandiose Vienna was the showpiece of the all-conquering Habsburg dynasty. Monumental edifices line the city centre, world-class museums burst with treasures, white stallions strut their way down mirrored halls and renowned orchestras and angelic choirboys perform in lavish concert halls. Located in eastern Austria along the Danube, Vienna is Austria’s political, financial and administrative capital. For centuries it was the seat of the Habsburg Empire, and today’s Vienna (Wien) is a city full of tradition and rich in architectural, artistic and musical heritage; but also headquarters to numerous international organizations and with the inauguration of the UN building and the International Conference Centre a little later, Vienna established itself as not only a city of great history but also became one of the three UN headquarters, alongside New York and Geneva.
Imperial Vienna was never a wholly German city: as the capital of a cosmopolitan empire, it attracted great minds from all over central and Eastern Europe. By the end of the Habsburg era it had become a breeding ground for the ideological movements of the age: nationalism, socialism, Zionism and antisemitism, all flourished here.
Today, Vienna has become a metropolitan where east and west collide, cultures mix and where behind a carefully crafted facade, hidden below the concealed blemishes of the city lies something else: a hidden, secret soul; where western criminal organization and crime try to hold their ground against a quickly expanding eastern underworld, a gateway between east and west on many fronts and some say a gateway to something entirely else.

What's the Character Creation process?
The game server follows the Character Creation process from the WoD Core book, taking you to the point just prior to adding a supernatural template. The actual process within the game roughly goes as follows:
- 1. Connect to the server (haunted-memories.net Port: 3010) and then create a user name/password (create <Name> <password).
- 2. Agree to the statement provided in the Welcome room (+accept).
- 3. Start character generation. On Haunted Memories this is a simple four steps process:
- (1) Concept: Choosing the key idea for your character and your sphere.
- (2) CharGen: Setting your nWoD stats: Attributes, skills and merits.
- (3) Background: Writing the key details of your history and personality.
- (4) Finishing Touches: Polishing off the last elements, such as appearance.
