"Let the music be your master. Will you heed the master's call?"
Martin Grey
Martin Grey seems to have been in Vienna forever. To most people, he's simply that weird, gonzo American who came over for classes and instead stayed to be a rock star; he lives in the Inner Districts in a converted garage called the Honest Mechanic, and when he isn't performing as the frontman for the popular local band Anomaly, he makes a living repairing instruments out of the first floor of the Mechanic. He is a young, charismatic and occasionally thoroughly obnoxious American who is as known for a certain amount of bon vivance as he is for giving of his time and energy to help the less fortunate people in the Inner Districts and Vienna at large. His live show has a reputation for being wild and full of intense energy.

To a select few people, Martin is known as Duhlurhir or Der Schlauhund, the Sly Dog. He has been an active part of Vienna's Forsaken community for almost two decades, most significantly after the Purge in 2000. He is a prominent member of the Iron Masters, capable of running Tribal Initiations for those wishing to join the Farsil Luhal, and also a Cahalith of particular capability, having recently achieved a fifth brand in Glory. As a member in good standing of the Lodge of Scrolls, Martin keeps the history of Vienna's Urdaga for the future generations. His story, in his own words, can be found here.

Quotes
  • On usurpation: "I'm not stupid, and I'm not blind. You try that sneaky shit on me, and I'll kick your ass. Second time, you'll find yourself wishing you could lick Forsythe's taint for a chance to get into another pack. Whatever you think about my methods, do not for an instant doubt the wolf behind them. I tackled an Idigam. Twice. I made myself its personal enemy. I'm still here. It is not."
  • On testing his patience: "Think of it as a three-strikes rule. If he doesn't get the idea this time, you get to give him a new hole to put his lies through."
  • On his auspice: "But also...we last. Endure. We must survive, yes? To sing the others to sleep. So the pain others would feel...I don't feel it. Not really. Have run myself into the ground before, not feeling it. I am Cahalith."
  • On his territory: "I didn't get lucky. I fought, and my packmates died, for this. I bend where I need to bend, but I don't break."
  • On protecting the Herd: "And how are you going to warn the humans? Just march in there and announce 'Okay, we're a bunch of werewolves and we're about to throw down with the spider-men here, if you don't want to be hurt, form an orderly line out of the front door'? Yeah, that'll go over well."
  • On backup plans: "I have a very many things worth living for, myself. I like to think of then as contingency plans, in case one goes tits-up."
Word on the Street
  • "Martin's like a lore keeper in our little community. He'd be mighty interested in hearin yer story, I'm sure. Plus he's been around Vienna for a long while now. Knows just about everyone. I'm sure he'll steer ya right." -- Carver
  • "As far as mine is concerned, you've been a friend. And a good wolf to the city. That's the most I can ask or expect of anyone not in my pack, Martin." -- Castor
  • "Besides, you're a Cahalith. Whatever comes out of your mouth becomes a kind of truth. Maybe you forgot that, but I didn't....Like it or not, the things you say and the attitudes you express *turn into truth*. If you say I'm a fool, bam--I'm a fool and not worth listening to." -- Wil
  • "Half the time I'm interacting with you you're getting emo over something. But shit happens all the freaking /time/, yo -- and you *do* push past it so you can function *perfectly* well -- if you'll recall I even /said/ that, that you pushed past shit -- but I'm worried maybe it's lingering in the background, festering, just *like* a wound that doesn't heal. All these shit things that happen, building up. And I'm worried because I /do/ see you so sad, and maybe you're dealing with a whole metric tonne of sad shit that I know jack all about, but maybe it *is* just life, and because you *do* remember so good, you let shit that happened fifteen years ago get to you as bad as shit that happened last week. Like Batman or something." -- Chris

Complete and utter douche in almost every manner of the word. And yet. I am glad you've finally realized what has been true for months. Maybe now we can really get some shit done. Graz was just the start.
Chris Pryce
I'm beginning to think that without you I would be endlessly falling into the core of the earth with a Beshilu on my back. Literally. I sleep better knowing you've got my back, but don't you think for a second that means you can get away with wearing those goddamn heelies without interference.
Zelda Strassen
I'm sorry I keep almost getting you killed. I swear I value your life more precious than my own--but this is a dangerous business we are in, my friend. I'm glad you're here with me to fight the battles that I cannot overcome.
Mallory Webber
You did more in Graz than you think you did; you've been there when I needed you, even when I threw you into some pretty unfair situations. I think only good will come of this.
Justine Delancy
Yours, I am afraid, is a hard road, much like your mother's. I'm not sure I can walk the whole length of it with you, but I can at least pace you while you're in my city.
Paige Eisl
You weren't ready for this. Maybe none of you are. But now it is on your shoulders, and I will do what I can to keep it from bearing you down. We're here to stand for you when you need it.

You've really grown into the hat, I think: Vienna needs more alphas like you. Thank you for not killing me when you were being completely terrifying Death Raging Rahu.
Cameron Starsmoore
Sometimes I think you are wiser than you realize and sometimes I think you are full of shit. You and my brother are like putting two sticks of dynamite in a washing machine. Only less clean, I imagine.
Gabriel Saenger
You'd think I'd be used to this by now, people rising up out of the dead. Feeling like I let them down. I am not sure where we stand, but I would like to find out again.
Verena Feher
Where are you off to, I wonder? I hope you didn't take a hard left at crazyville.
Romy Senner
I really wish I could say I was surprised. I really do. But I'm not. Don't let this happen to you a third time, you did not deserve the first or the second.
Arali ki Anur
What is it with me and collecting strays? You have a lot of stories still to hear, and I would be happy to tell them to you if you would only sit still!
Sieghilde Altman
Let me know when your fog has lifted.
Castor Forsythe
I wish you were less of a legend than you have become.
Kai Forsythe
I think you've finally slowed down just long enough to see where you are rather then where you were. I'm glad; you were starting to do yourself a disservice.
Tyree McAllister
Take care of her, or so help me there will be nowhere to hide. Just so we're clear on that.
Rowan
You are a curiouser creature still than either Dyaria or Sophia. You are far less closed off than one and I am less frightened of deals made with you than with the other. I still refuse to go anywhere near thoughts of you and your mate, though; that's dangerous territory right there.
Stereotypes
Tribe-bloodtalons.png Suthar Anzuth
They say your call to battle is like my own call from the moon, but I will never understand your bloodlust, your need for war. You have your uses, but subtlety still proves not to be one of them. I have yet to meet one of your Garmir with sense in his head.
Tribe-boneshadows.png Hirfathra Hissu
I saw once, just for a moment, the dead world as you must see things. It was so fucking depressing it's a wonder you haven't all died off just from a lack of motivation. I have my own share of lust for secrets, but I'd rather live while I hunt them.
Tribe-huntersindarkness.png Meninna
Someone must keep the forests, even if I have little use for them. We are two sides of the same coin, the balance in the scales. I would not have it any other way.
Tribe-ironmasters.png Farsil Luhal
My brothers and sisters by choice, not by blood. I could not be anything but what I am, and I would not give it up for the world. Honor your territory in all things.
Tribe-stormlords.png Iminir
You catch more flies with honey than with tyranny, my imperious friends. Yet, I have known a few of your number who really know how to lead without rubbing it in everyone else's noses. There's little more reliable to have at your back.
Tribe-ghostwolves.png Thihirtha Numea
Occasionally one of you wanders for the right reasons. The rest of you need to make up your fucking minds.
Tribe-ivoryclaws.png Tzuumfin
And I thought the goddamn Storm Lords were bad. Jesus Christ. You're elitist posers, all of you, and your time has come and gone.
Tribe-predatorkings.png Ninna Farakh
They're little better than animals, but they're SMART fucking animals. That makes them dangerous.
Tribe-firetouched.png Izidakh
You could have been my brothers. Instead, you are nothing more than gibbering madmen and slaves to Gurim's will. Oh, how you have fallen.
Vampire.png Muth Luzuk
Filthly, unholy, unnatural things. I treat with you when I must to prevent a war on two fronts. I have no love for your kind, and I will never forget that I have turned one of you to ash. I don't expect you will forget, either.
ChangelingSkull.png ?
I am still not sure you aren't just Spirit-Claimed who've managed to unite in it. I mean, really? Fairies? I know little to nothing about you, and I can't find you amongst the Herd. This makes me nervous.
Mage.png Umma
Powerful, useful allies. Closer to us than the others, I think. Still, too political for your own good. Not everything needs a committee.
Mortal.png The Herd
If I'm doing it right, you'll never know what I am, what I do for you, or that what I do is even necessary. I wish I could protect you all.

RP Hooks
  • Musician Martin and his band Anomaly have been active on the Viennese music scene for almost fourteen years, and they have at least enough popularity to have something to show for it. He has a tendency to be pretty indulgent of fans, and tries to be helpful and involved in the music scene, so if you're a rock musician or even just a music-lover in Vienna, you've probably at least heard of Martin in passing. He also runs an instrument repair shop out of the bottom floor of his home in the Inner Districts. (Martin has Fame 1 as a result of his work with his band).
  • Charity Martin has lived in the Inner Districts for a long time, and has been pretty active in outreach programs since, donating both time, effort and money to halfway houses, soup kitchens, women's shelters, orphanages and the like.
  • University Although Martin hasn't attended Uni in a few years at this point, he did go to class on-and-off for many years. Long-term professors or past students may know his face.
  • Werewolves He is one. If you can sense such things, you'd probably know! Martin has recently become a major Jaggling in honorary spirit rank, and it is general knowledge that he also recently received his fifth brand in Glory Renown in specific. Rumor has it he has tackled an Idigam not once but at least twice, and lived to tell the tale.
  • Iron Masters To date, Martin is likely the werewolf who has been consistently in Vienna longest, and one of only a few who survived the Pure attacks of 2000 who is still in the city. Generally a respected 'elder' in the Farsil Luhal and until recently the only one in Vienna capable of performing the Initiation Rite, The Sly Dog is well-known amongst his Tribe and the werewolves of Vienna at large.
  • Lodge of Scrolls Martin is also a member of the Lodge of Scrolls, and as such keeps a ridiculously complete history of werewolf-doings in Vienna. If your character is looking for a history lesson, or even just interested in these things, Marty's the guy to go to.

Let the music be your master, will you heed the master's call?

I do not dare deny the basic beast inside, it's right here, it's controlling my mind.

I'm more than just a little curious how you're planning to go about making your amends to the dead.

I get funny dreams again and again. I know what it means, but...

Beware the smile, it hides all the teeth, my dear, what's behind them?

There's a darkness living deep in my soul that's still got a purpose to serve.

See the lightning in your eyes, see 'em running for their lives.

Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner and shine!

Sometimes, when I'm awake, I can't tell if I'm still dreaming.

He carries the reminders of every glove that's laid him down or cut him 'til he cried out in his anger and his shame, 'I am leaving, I am leaving' but the fighter still remains.

I'm keeping an eye on the future, an eye on the past, and the present in my pocket, just in case I need a door to a brave new world where all solutions end up in my head.

Half my life's in books, written pages; lived and learned from fools and from sages.

You may be a big fish in a little pond; doesn't mean you've won, because along may come a bigger one.
